Patients often want to know what procedure would be the most significant to enhance and freshen their appearance. I feel that eyelid contouring as well as brow elevation is a very important component to that. When patients hear about brow elevation, they often think they are going to look surprised or startled, but on the contrary if done in a conservative and very appropriate manner, it is a great way to enhance the upper third of the face. As a plastic surgeon, I would like to place incisions where the eye naturally wants to see contours or shadows. In the lower lid the incision is placed just below the lashes. In the upper lid the incision is placed at the natural crease of the upper lid. When it comes to the brow lifting, I would like to place the incision at the anterior hairline. The reason for this is that I have a strong belief in not altering the hairline itself or enlarging the forehead during the brow lifting procedure.
Since I had the surgery when I am talking to people, I do not feel like they are looking at my hair. They just keep steady eye contact and I just feel just very comfortable and I do not mind sitting at the end of an aisle, I will have my back to an open aisle. My people say, “Wow! You got hair transplant, it does not even show”, and that is what I would like to here versus in the past prior to having the plugs redone they look at me and say, “Oh! Who did your hair transplant?” and this is much nicer. Again my level of confidence is just much higher and it is just the feeling of self-confidence is wonderful to comb my hair and look at it and not seeing the plugs that were there earlier and it is just a much more natural feeling.
One of my subspecialties within hair restoration surgery is the correction of previous hair transplants that were not performed to current standards. There can be no more devastating a hair problem for a man than to have the unsightly plugs from a previous hair transplant. There are numerous procedures that can be performed to improve this. It is important to realize that these are not quick fix operations and almost always two or possibly three procedures are necessary to achieve the most natural appearance that is possible. These things are so easily corrected today, you have to get it done. It changes your life and it changes the outlook that you have got on yourself, and I have just really have a lot more confidence in myself now.
When people consider hair restoration surgery they frequently assume that it is a man who is having the hair transplant. However, 30% of women over the age of 50 have a significant degree of hair loss that impairs their ability to style their hair as they would prefer. Very frequently we perform hair restoration in women. This is a very successful procedure and it is extremely gratifying in those patients who are good candidates.
