BOTOX® Cosmetic is a safe, FDA-approved treatment designed to smooth wrinkles caused by muscles of expression. A few days after a single treatment, you'll notice results that will last for three to six months. BOTOX® Cosmetic works by using a tiny amount of Botulinium Toxin Type A that is produced in carefully controlled laboratory conditions to block muscle contractions and the wrinkles they cause. Under the medical supervision of Dr. Vogel, our trained and experienced registered nurses will gently inject a dose of BOTOX® Cosmetic using a tiny needle. The entire procedure takes only about 15 minutes.

Dysport®
Dysport® is the latest alternative to BOTOX® injections and is quickly taking the world of non-surgical cosmetic enhancement by storm. Recently approved by the FDA, Dysport® is designed to help patients reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the face. Developed by Ipsen and licensed by Medicis, Dysport® offers many of the same benefits as BOTOX® Cosmetic. Dysport® is derived from Clostridium botulinum and has already been used in Europe for several years. Like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport® temporarily prevents facial muscles from contracting, resulting in smoothed out lines and wrinkles and a more refreshed, youthful aesthetic. Dysport® is injected with a fine needle directly into the treatment areas, and has proven very effective at skin rejuvenation in the forehead and between the eyes. Typical procedures last 15 minutes or less, and the effects are often immediately apparent. There is generally no downtime associated with this procedure; however patients may experience some temporary redness, bruising, and/or swelling in the first few days after treatment. What to Expect During Your Appointment for Injectable Wrinkle Fillers
During your skin care treatment at our Baltimore office, you can relax in our comfortable, meticulously clean surroundings while enjoying a complimentary beverage.
All of the injectable treatments involve using a tiny needle to inject small amounts of fillers. You may choose to have the affected area numbed with anesthetic to minimize any discomfort. The procedure itself takes only a few minutes, and your entire visit usually takes about half an hour. Following the procedure, one of our skilled, experienced registered nurses will apply an ice compress to cool your skin and reduce swelling. If you wish, we'll assist you with your make-up following the procedure. You'll see results and be able to resume normal activities immediately.
Potential Side Effects of Wrinkle Fillers
All injectable treatments may cause mild side effects, such as irritation, swelling, itching, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site. Fat grafting is an advanced technique offered in our plastic surgery practice by Dr. James Vogel. It involves taking fat from an area such as the stomach, inner knees or thighs, purifying it and grafting it into the cheekbones and around the mouth to restore the youthful fat that is lost due to age.

Surgical Dermabrasion

When you want or need a more advanced approach to treat the wrinkles around your mouth, surgical dermabrasion is a time tested procedure. Those who have smoked or had extensive sun exposure are especially vulnerable to wrinkles in this area, causing them to look older than their age and to experience unsightly "bleeding" of their lipstick.
In this technique, the top layer of skin is surgically abraded, resulting in a smoother skin contour and a 50 percent improvement in wrinkles for most patients. The results may be enhanced by also using a lip-filler such as fat grafting or Restylane®. Patients receive IV sedation during the procedure to ensure their comfort. The healing time is about one week and redness may persist for a few weeks.
