Augmentation and lifting of the breast when done at the same time is called augmentation mastopexy. The mastopexy is the lifting portion of the procedure. The lift is created by tightening the envelope of breast skin and elevating the nipple position. The areola size is also reduced. An augmentation is performed at the same time to provide fullness in the upper portion of the breast and to compensate for the loss of volume that occurs with the removal of some breast skin.
Here is some additional information about breast lift:
Length of Treatment: one to three hours
Anesthesia: IV Sedation
In Patient / Out Patient: In most cases, outpatient
Potential Side Effects/risks: Temporary numbness, discomfort, swelling, bruising, dry skin. Permanent scarring.
Time off Work: Usually one week
Physical Activity: About one month
How Long Results Last: Variable. Gravity, aging, and pregnancy can all affect result duration
Many factors can contribute to the sagging of the breasts – weight fluctuations, pregnancy, nursing, the aging process. But no matter what their cause, sagging breasts can make many women feel self-conscious, insecure,z or embarrassed about their bodies. An augmentation mastopexy or a mastopexy alone can restore what nature has taken away or even enhance the original and the spirit. A breast lift with or without augmentation can also be combined with other procedures for optimal contouring effect - for example, many patients that undergo breast lift in our Baltimore, Maryland office also choose to supplement their results with liposuction or a tummy tuck.
If you live in Baltimore, Maryland (or are from out of town) and would like to learn more about breast lift or breast augmentation, please contact the office of Dr. James Vogel today.
Although it is extremely popular among our Baltimore, Maryland patients, breast augmentation isn't for everyone. In fact, we see many women who instead want their breasts made smaller. Naturally occurring breasts that are too large breasts can cause a myriad of problems, from excessive neck and back problems to discomfort when exercising and even physical strap marks left behind on the shoulders. Breast reduction can reduce the size of the breasts, making them more proportionate to the body and more comfortable for the patient. Reducing the size of the breast is accomplished in our Baltimore, Maryland office by reducing the breast skin, fat, and actual breast tissue as well. The nipple and areola are also lifted into a more flattering position.
During breast reduction, unnecessary fat, tissue, and skin are carefully removed, and the breasts are essentially made smaller. They are also lifted into a more flattering position.

We are pleased to offer an alternative and new type of breast reduction surgery that involves breast liposuction alone. This procedure, which is less invasive than traditional breast reduction surgery, allows for excellent volume reduction of the breast and, to a modest degree, a lifting of the breast, as well. The technique of breast reduction through liposuction results in a shorter recovery time and very minimal scarring.
