Taking good care of your skin begins with using the right skin care products every day. Baltimore , Maryland cosmetic surgeon Dr. James Vogel and his licensed aesthetician and registered nurses provide expert skin care regimens using a variety of advanced skin care products and peels.
We offer a variety of medical grade skin care products to suit your individual needs in our Baltimore , Maryland Medi-Spa. This line consists of two levels of skin care: The first level establishes and maintains your skin health using effective skin care products along with Retin-A®. Used daily at home, these products tighten and deep clean your skin while lightening pigmentation caused by sun damage and aging. You'll begin to see results within just four to six weeks, while improvements are even more apparent over time.
A blue peel is applied to the patient's face for a deep skin exfoliation.
The same patient seen above with the blue peel is shown before the peel and a few days later. Note the peeling of dead superficial layers of skin and the healthy fresh skin emerging.
The second level of skin care, a Blue Peel, is used for more extensive treatment of wrinkles or discolorations. Using a fruit-based acid called trichloroacetic acid (TCA), this peel provides deeper exfoliation of your top skin layers for more dramatic results. The peel can also treat your hands, arms and chest, for a radiant appearance anywhere your skin has been damaged by the sun and aging.

The first and only product approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to stimulate the growth of eyelashes is now available from the practice of James E. Vogel, MD. Latisse™ can help those who experience hypotrichosis (inadequate eyelash growth) grow thicker, longer lashes that can accentuate the appearance of the eyes without complete reliance on mascara and eyelash curlers. Latisse™ has been developed by Allergan, and works as a topical prescription product that you can apply at home. The treatment is typically applied daily for about 4 to 8 weeks, and once you have achieved the desired thickness and length to your eyelashes, treatments can be applied less frequently. Although Latisse™ has been scientifically proven to be effective, some patients may experience side effects, including darkening of the skin, itchiness, inflammation, and redness. Individuals should consult with our Annapolis and Baltimore, Maryland-area practice regarding the risks and benefits of Latisse™ before using it. For more information on Latisse™, please contact Dr. James E. Vogel today.
Uncover hidden layers of beauty
A diamond tip is seen on the dermabrasion wand to remove superficial dead skin. We prefer this method to the airborn particles used in other micro-dermabrasion systems.
Microdermabrasion is an exciting development in skin care treatment that gently peels away the dead surface layers of your skin to reveal the fresher, tighter, younger-looking skin beneath. Most patients notice improvements in their skin texture and appearance immediately. Used in combination with our medical grade skin care products, our Baltimore patients have achieved smooth, glowing, beautiful skin they're proud to show off every day. This technique can also be combined with a Photofacial™ (IPL®) to achieve beautiful results.
IPL™ photo facial being used to reduce brown sun spots.
Actual dead , superficial skin cells removed during micro-dermabrasion and trapped by the system filters.
Microdermabrasion is most often performed on your face, but can be used anywhere your skin needs freshening and smoothing. The procedure, which involves passing a diamond-tipped wand over your skin to remove and trap dead skin cells, takes only 20 minutes. This procedure prevents microparticles from reacting with your skin or respiratory system, which can clog your pores or even interfere with your breathing. Most patients find that a series of microdermabrasion peels is most successful.

Treating age spots, sun damaged skin, wrinkles, and even unwanted hair
IPL™ photo facial being used to reduce brown sun spots.
This patient had brown spots from sun damage treated with a series of IPL photo facials treatments.
IPL™ This patient has had IPL treatments to reduce her brown spots and the red dilated blood vessels - all from sun damage and skin exposure !
Using gentle, broad-spectrum light in precise pulses, IPL® rejuvenates your skin and decreases hair growth. A Photofacial™ is an excellent treatment for all skin types and especially for those with fair skin. It can be used on your neck, chest, and hands as well as your face to provide immediate, long-lasting results that minimize:
Most patients find that a series of three to five 30-minute treatments spaced at three to four week intervals is an ideal treatment schedule.

Spray Tanning is quick, flawless and natural-looking without the UV damage. It disguises skin imperfections such as scars, veins, stretch marks, and cellulite. Our experienced, licensed Esthetician will consult with you to customize the formula specific to your natural skin tone and type. Color looks natural and golden brown, never orange.
It takes 6-8 hours for your skin coloration to develop and the color should last 5 - 7 days depending on how you care for it. The spray tan fades just as a natural suntan would. You should avoid exfoliating to prolong the life of the tan and moisturize 2x a day. You can wear whatever you feel most comfortable in when having the tanning solution applied. Most women wear their underwear or an old swimsuit. During application, you will stand in a tent for about 10 minutes. It is recommended to wear dark, loose-fitting clothing and flip-flops right after your session. You may see slight trace of bronzer on your clothes right after the application and it can rub off the same way that foundation (make-up) does. However, many clients confidently wear white clothing after one shower. The tanning solution is water based and almost always washes out of clothing that it comes in contact with, however we recommend that you do not wear silk.

A long-lasting solution for unwanted hair
For long-lasting hair removal, IPL® (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments are increasingly popular and effective. The most popular areas for hair removal include the face, armpits, bikini area, legs, and back. Studies have shown that 40 to 80 percent of hair can be removed for months or years with multiple treatments. Patients with darker hair and fairer skin tend to have the best results, but patients with many skin and hair types can be successfully treated.
The IPL® works by using heat to damage the hair follicles and inhibit growth. During the procedure, an experienced staff member will carefully move a hand-held device over the skin in the area where you wish to remove hair. We can apply a topical anesthetic and a cooling gel to your skin for your comfort. This skin care procedure requires only a few minutes for small areas, such as the area above your lip, or up to an hour for larger areas such as your back. You may feel a mild stinging sensation as the light treatments are administered. While an assistant performs the procedure, Dr. Vogel provides medical supervision of to ensure a safe skin care experience. Most of our Baltimore, Maryland-area patients will need several laser skin care treatments for maximum results.
You should avoid sun exposure for at least four weeks prior to the procedure and for several weeks following the procedure. We recommend that you shave the area to be treated several days before, and that you avoid electrolysis, waxing or plucking of hair in the area several weeks beforehand.
Side effects are usually temporary and very mild. Following the procedure, you may experience some continued stinging, redness, or swelling. Occasionally, patients may experience some temporary darkening or lightening of skin color, but complications are rare.

Effective treatment for cellulite
A patient is seen speaking to our aesthetician about Endermologie®, an FDA approved cellulite reduction treatment. The Endermologie® machine is being demonstrated.
No matter how healthful your diet or how much you exercise, you may be one of many people who are unable to eliminate cellulite, the unwanted fat cells that make your thighs and other areas look dimpled.
Our aesthetician, a licensed, experienced endermologist, performs this FDA-approved skin care treatment and patented massage method that breaks up clusters of fat cells and smoothes your skin's appearance.
It can be used on the thighs, buttocks, legs, abdomen, and other areas as needed. A special diet and exercise regimen is an important component of a successful program. For optimal results, Dr. Vogel usually recommends that his Baltimore , Maryland patients undergo a series of these skin care treatments.

Removes veins for smooth, even skin
We are pleased to offer laser vein reduction treatment for your comfort and convenience. This skin care treatment, as provided at our Baltimore office, reduces or eliminates the appearance of small leg veins and spider veins without the discomfort and long recovery times associated with surgery.
The laser delivers a highly concentrated beam of light to the affected vein, causing it to close and to make the twisted appearance lessen or disappear. The blood flow is directed to other, unaffected veins. Large varicose veins are not suitable for treatment by the laser. In addition, any dilated vein has a somewhat unpredictable likelihood of permanent closure or elimination because there is always a persistent pressure head behind it.
As with all of our skin care procedures, this laser treatment is performed under the medical supervision of Dr. Vogel for your safety. You will feel a stinging sensation that some people describe as similar to the snapping of a rubber band. Local anesthetic cream can be applied to the area to reduce discomfort. You may immediately resume normal activities following the procedure. Most patients will require a few repeat procedures to get the best results.
