When the brow line begins to droop below its youthful position, many individuals start to notice the formation of forehead wrinkles, creases, and various other signs of aging. For many men and women, brow lift surgery can be an effective procedure for rejuvenating the appearance of the upper third of the face. Designed to lift a sagging brow line and remove excess skin, a brow lift performed by our plastic surgeon — Carrie A. Houssock, MD, FACS — can address key aging symptoms with long-lasting, natural-looking results.

“I cannot explain how much I love this place. Dr. Houssock is the most professional, caring and considerate surgeon I have ever had the pleasure of working with. The office is ultra clean, staff is exceptionally nice, and Dr. Houssock’s work is unmatched. Will never go anywhere else!”

What Are the Benefits of Brow Lift Surgery?

Brow lift surgery offers the following benefits:

  • Reduce hooding above the upper eyelid
  • Restore youthful eyebrow elevation and arch
  • Smooth and relax overactive muscles between the eyebrows
  • Lift, smooth, and remove excess skin
  • Reduce the appearance of wrinkles and creases along the forehead and brow line

Brow lift surgery offers the most comprehensive level of improvement of an aging brow line when injectable dermal fillers and other non-surgical options can not adequately treat visible aesthetic concerns. Typically, this determination is made when skin laxity along the forehead becomes moderate to severe. At this stage of facial aging, excess skin must be removed and the brow line surgically lifted in order to smooth forehead wrinkles and regain the youthful contour and position of the brow.

What Happens During the Brow Lift Procedure?

Our plastic surgeon places the initial incisions for brow lift in front of the hairline to preserve the patient’s natural forehead proportion. Through these incisions, she releases tissue and musculature, and carefully elevates the brow line to achieve a natural-looking and balanced cosmetic result. Dr. Houssock is conservative in repositioning the brow line to avoid an “overdone” appearance. Lastly, she smooths and lifts the forehead skin and removes any excess before placing sutures. Each brow lift procedure is customized to meet the individual needs and goals of the patient.

What Can I Expect During Brow Lift Recovery?

Recovery after brow lift surgery varies based on each patient’s unique concerns. Typically, recovery takes about seven to ten days. During this time, patients may experience mild discomfort, however, with proper after-care, any symptoms should be easily managed and resolve quickly. Initial results of the procedure will generally be apparent soon after surgery and usually continue to improve as any post-surgical discoloration and swelling dissipates.

What Are the Results of Brow Lift Surgery?

The smoother, lifted results of a brow lift can be quite rejuvenating to the overall facial appearance. After undergoing the procedure, many patients report that friends and co-workers say they suddenly look more content and well-rested. Our plastic surgeon always strives for results that improve, not change, the way patients look. Brow lift can be combined with other facial procedures, such as eyelid lift or facelift, to accomplish more comprehensive enhancement.

Will I Have Brow Lift Scars?

Your plastic surgeon will be mindful of placing your brow lift incisions within the hairline. Though scar tissue will develop as the incisions heal, they should be well-concealed by your hair. If you lack the hair density necessary to camouflage your brow lift scars, Dr. Houssock may discuss the use of hair transplants to create additional coverage. Hair transplants can be artfully performed to offer natural-looking hair density and hair lines.

How Long Does a Brow Lift Last?

The length of time your brow lift results last will depend on the extent of your brow lift, the degree of improvement achieved, and the way in which your forehead continues to age as time goes on. There is no way to predict the exact longevity of your results, but your plastic surgeon can help set your expectations before the procedure is performed. Protecting your skin from the sun, eating a healthy diet, and following a daily skin care regimen that nourishes the skin can potentially aid in slowing the aging process, but there are no guarantees. It is important to note that many of our patients feel that they age more gracefully as a result of their brow lift. If at some point you notice the need for a touch-up procedure, you can discuss ways to renew your results with your plastic surgeon.

How Much Does a Brow lift Cost?

At our practice, the average cost for custom brow lift surgery alone is typically between $8,500 and $9,500. A brow lift with hairline lowering often ranges between $9,900 to $10,900. Pricing can fluctuate either above or below this estimate based on a variety of factors, which are discussed during the consultation process. It is also common for patients to combine brow lift surgery with other facial plastic surgery procedures during the course of a single operation to achieve more comprehensive rejuvenation, consolidate recovery time, and help lower overall costs. Ultimately, the price of your procedure will be calculated based on the specifics of your surgical plan (i.e. the techniques your plastic surgeon plans on using) and the complexity of the procedure.

Following your consultation with Dr. Houssock, you will be provided with a cost estimate for your brow lift and any other procedures you plan to undergo. At this time, our office team will be happy to answer any questions you have about pricing, explain the payment methods we accept, and discuss how plastic surgery financing can make the cost of surgery more budget-friendly. Our practice is partnered with several third-party lenders who offer a variety of financing options to qualified applicants. You may be surprised by how affordable the surgery you want can be!

What Is a Non-Surgical Brow Lift?

For patients who are not yet ready to undergo brow lift surgery but desire cosmetic enhancement to rejuvenate the forehead and brow line, our plastic surgeon may perform a non-surgical brow lift. Non-surgical brow lift uses a combination of BOTOX® and other injectable treatments to smooth the appearance of the forehead and create a more youthful-looking brow line. Results of non-surgical brow lift are temporary, and injectable treatments must be repeated periodically to maintain results.

Is a Brow Lift the Same as Forehead Reduction?

Forehead reduction is a different procedure than brow lift surgery. In addition to brow lift surgery, Dr. Houssock performs forehead reduction, which is very popular for people who feel the size of their forehead is too large. This procedure and examples are detailed on our forehead reduction and hairline lowering pages.
