How Do I Get Rid of Jowls?

Home/Blog / How Do I Get Rid of Jowls?

The formation of jowls is caused by aging of the skin, tissue, and musculature of the face and neck, which results in a drooping appearance below the natural jawline. While certain signs of facial aging can sometimes be adequately addressed with non-surgical methods, such as dermal fillers, wrinkle relaxers, laser skin resurfacing, and/or KYBELLA®, jowls are typically a more complex issue to target without surgery. In order to correct jowls with long-lasting results, our plastic surgeon typically recommends combining a facelift with neck lift techniques for the greatest degree of rejuvenation.

While facelift surgery focuses on improving the bottom two-thirds of the face, integrating neck lift techniques can effectively define the jawline and upper neck. A dynamic approach like this is oftentimes ideal for correcting jowls, which involve loss of elasticity in both the face and neck. Through a surgical plan that includes both of these procedures, our plastic surgeon can:

Lift and smooth sagging in the mid and lower face by repositioning the deep connective tissue and removing excess skin.
Utilize liposuction or excision techniques for neck contouring, which can sculpt fat deposits that have developed below the jawline and cause additional fullness.
Lift and reposition lax skin and neck musculature to restore a more youthful looking profile along the jaw and neck.
Correct the appearance of a double chin.
