What is Eyebrow Microblading?
Eyebrow microblading is a tattooing technique that uses semi-permanent pigments and a specialized tool to create the appearance of hairlike strokes on the skin for customized eyebrow enhancement. Results can last for approximately 18 to 24 months.
What are the Benefits of Eyebrow Microblading?
There are many advantages to choosing eyebrow microblading for more attractive eyebrows. Microblading performed by a skilled, professional technician can:
- Fill-in brows that are sparse or over-plucked
- Create a more flattering eyebrow shape
- Enhance the symmetry of your eyebrows
- Cover scars in the eyebrows where natural hairs won’t grow
- Darken the appearance of eyebrows
- Replace the need for cosmetic eyebrow pencils and gels
- Complement the results of a brow lift or eyelid lift
The unique microblading tool and semi-permanent pigments offer results that look incredibly natural. The tool resembles a blade at the end, but it’s actually made up of a row of tiny needles, which deposit the pigments just below the epidermis layer of the skin. Each stroke resembles an eyebrow hair, and the technician is careful to create artful strokes that are the right direction, width, length, and density to deliver realistic results.
What Can I Expect During the Microblading Process?
Before microblading begins, you will have the opportunity to discuss your eyebrow concerns and goals with the technician. Based on the information you share and an evaluation of your eyebrows, your technician will propose a plan for improving your eyebrows with microblading. Several measurements will be taken to properly align your proposed brow shape, and an outline drawn on your skin will act as a detailed guide when the treatment begins. You will be asked to approve the plan once it has been completed. Next, a topical anesthetic is applied to the eyebrows to desensitize the skin. Once the skin is numbed, your technician will begin adding pigment to the skin with the microblade, carefully following the outlined plans. Most individuals describe the process as tolerable, if not comfortable—additional numbing cream can be applied as needed. Typically, the entire appointment takes about two hours to complete.
What is Recovery Like after Microblading?
When the microblading is complete, your technician will discuss how to care for your healing eyebrows and what to expect during the recovery process. There is no downtime required after microblading, but you may feel some soreness as the topical anesthetic wears off. It is very important that you adhere to all of the post-care instructions so as not to disrupt the healing process. If you have any questions, you are encouraged to call your technician. Within a few days of the procedure, the skin on your eyebrows will flake lightly as they heal. After four weeks you will be able to fully evaluate the color of your eyebrows and determine if a touchup is necessary. Full healed color is apparent after three to four months.
Once your eyebrows have had the chance to heal for about four weeks, a touchup treatment can be performed if desired. It may be helpful to come in and visit your technician to evaluate whether a touchup is necessary. It takes about three to four months before the pigments have completely healed into the skin. The results achieved with professional microblading can look remarkably natural, and the majority of our patients are thrilled with their new look. Over time, the pigments will fade, lasting between a year and a half and two years. Future microblading treatments can be adjusted to suit a new style or hair color if decided—semi-permanent means that you will not be stuck with the original shape and color forever, which is a relief to many patients.
