Butt Augmentation

Buttock Augmentation (Enlargement) Using Fat Transfer

Buttock enlargement (also know as gluteal lifts, gluteoplasty, gluteal shaping or Brazilian butt lift) using the patient’s own fat, is an increasingly popular procedure we offer at our plastic surgery practice.

The buttocks are a difficult area of the body to shape through exercise. The shape and size of the buttocks have a significant influence on the aesthetics of the body for both men and women.

In this section, we have added before and after photos for patients who had butt augmentation surgery with plastic surgeon James Vogel, MD.

How is the Buttock Enlargement Procedure Performed?

The buttock enlargement procedure is performed using IV sedation in our fully certified surgical facility. Gentle liposuction and liposculpture techniques are used to remove fat cells from the donor site such as the thighs, abdomen, back or hips. In addition, liposuction is used to shape the buttocks into an improved and rounded contour through sculpting of the sacral area and regions previously mentioned. The improved contours around the buttock are a very important part of the overall process to achieve a terrific result. The removed fat is then concentrated and prepared for re-injection into the buttock. The re-injection areas are carefully marked pre-operatively to maximize aesthetic projection of the buttock, which complements the contouring achieved with the liposuction.

Butt Augmentation Frequently Asked Questions

How Does Fat Transfer Compare with a Buttock Implant?
Fat transfer to the buttock has much smaller incisions with considerably less scarring, shorter healing time, a more natural appearance, and the safety of the procedure is greatly increased because there is no chance of rejection and a significantly reduced rate of infection.
What is the Recovery Time?
Following the procedure, you must not sit directly on your buttocks for up to two weeks to allow for a permanent result. Patients typically do a lot of standing or lying on their tummies! Using the toilet with a cushion on the seat is the only time sitting is permitted. Most patients return to work in 2 weeks and sit on a pillow. A contouring garment is also worn, or bike shorts for 4-6 weeks to control swelling. You should be able to resume all normal activities at 6 weeks post op.
How Long Will the Results Last?
Typically the body absorbs 20%-30% of the fat that is injected and approximately 70%-80% remains. Usually, whatever fat remains after 4 months will remain permanently so a certain amount overfilling is necessary to compensate for what can be reabsorbed.
