Butt Augmentation (Brazilian Butt Lift)
The shape and size of the buttocks can have a significant influence on the aesthetics of your figure, but they are a difficult part of the body to shape through dieting and exercise alone. With the help of plastic surgery, it is possible to enhance the contours of the buttocks with beautiful, natural-looking results. Brazilian butt lift (BBL) surgery—also called buttock augmentation/enlargement, gluteal shaping, gluteal lift, or gluteoplasty—is an increasingly popular procedure we offer at our plastic surgery practice that uses the patient’s own fat (via fat grafting techniques) to accentuate the buttocks. Once harvested from regions of the body via liposuction, fat tissue is transferred the buttocks to enhance its shape, size, projection, and/or proportion.

What Are the Benefits of a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Brazilian butt lifting offers a wide range of cosmetic benefits for men and women seeking to enhance the appearance of their buttocks. The procedure can:
- Give buttocks a fuller, more lifted appearance
- Balance figure proportions
- Create a curvier silhouette
- Increase the projection of the buttocks
- Reduce and sculpt areas of excess fat elsewhere on the body (when fat is harvested with liposuction)
- Reshape the buttocks
- Create smooth contours and symmetry
- Add size and volume to the buttocks
- Restore depleted buttocks volume (caused by aging or weight loss)
Who Is a Candidate for Brazilian Butt Lift?
Potential candidates for the Brazilian butt lift procedure must be in good overall health, have reasonable expectations about the outcome that can be achieved, and have an adequate amount of excess fat in one or more areas of the body to accomplish the fat transfer(s). Additionally, in order to attain the highest-quality results from a Brazilian butt lift, patients must be dedicated to following the post-operative instructions closely—including refraining from placing pressure on the buttocks, wearing specialized garments, and abstaining from smoking.
How Is the Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure Performed?
The Brazilian butt lift procedure is performed using IV sedation in our fully certified surgical facility. Gentle liposuction and liposculpture techniques are used to remove fat cells from the donor site such as the thighs, abdomen, back, or hips. In addition, liposuction is used to shape the buttocks into an improved and rounded contour through sculpting of the sacral area and regions previously mentioned. The improved contours around the buttock are a very important part of the overall process to achieve a terrific result. The removed fat is then concentrated and prepared for re-injection into the buttock. The re-injection areas are carefully marked pre-operatively to maximize aesthetic projection of the buttock, which complements the contouring achieved with the liposuction.
How Does Fat Transfer Compare with a Buttock Implant?
In comparison to buttock implants, fat transfer to the buttock has much smaller incisions with considerably less scarring, shorter healing time, a more natural appearance, and the safety of the procedure is greatly increased because there is no chance of implant rejection and a significantly reduced rate of infection.
What Is Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery Like?
Following the procedure, you must not sit directly on your buttocks for up to two weeks to allow for a permanent result. Patients typically do a lot of standing or lying on their tummies! Using the toilet with a cushion on the seat is the only time sitting is permitted. Most patients return to work in two weeks and sit on a pillow. A contouring garment is also worn, or bike shorts for 4-6 weeks to control swelling. You should be able to resume all normal activities at six weeks after surgery.
How Long Do the Results of a Brazilian Butt Lift Last?
Typically the body absorbs 20%-30% of the fat that is injected and approximately 70%-80% remains. Usually, whatever fat remains after four months will remain permanently so a certain amount overfilling is necessary to compensate for what can be reabsorbed.
To get a better idea of the results that are possible with a Brazilian butt lift, we invite you to explore before and after photos of patients who have undergone BBL surgery performed by our plastic surgeons, James Vogel, MD and Carrie Houssock, MD.
How Much Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Cost?
The average overall price for a Brazialian butt lift performed at our practice is between $9,000 and $11,000. Based on the unique details of your proposed surgery—which includes the volume of fat you are having transferred, the complexity of your Brazialian butt lift, the number of areas where fat is being harvested from, and any additional procedures you are having performed—we can provide you with an accurate price estimate for your total care at the time of your consultation. Our office team is happy to educate you about how prices are calculated, answer any questions you have, discuss payment options, and schedule your procedure. If you are interested in exploring financing opportunities available through trusted third-party lenders, we can explain the application process and discuss your loan options upon approval. Many qualified applicants find that plastic surgery financing makes paying for treatment more affordable than they imagined.
